After the discovery of local kaolin in 1788 Bohemia began producing porcelain and ceramics and by the second half of the 19th century, the ceramic factories in Bohemia were flourishing. By 1905, the Teplitz area was the largest pottery center in Europe. B. Bloch and Company was founded in 1871 and continued into the 1930's producing ewers, centerpieces and vases often in the Art Nouveau style.
