Johann Loetz founded Loetz Glassworks in 1840 in Klostermuhle, Bohemia part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. In 1889 Loetz exhibited at the Paris International Exposition along with Galle and Tiffany. The peak for Loetz was the Art Nouveau style with free blown, pinched, organic or decorated vases. Loetz is famous for the bluish-green combination of cobalt, copper and iron creating their deep metallic luster. Most Loetz glass was commissioned by outside designers many of whom were associated with the Vienna Secession Art movement.
